Simon Tyler

Simon was appointed on 8 November 2022. He chairs Heartland Bank’s Audit Committee, and is a member of the Risk Committee, the People & Culture and Remuneration Committee, and Heartland’s Sustainability Committee.

Simon brings to the Board extensive banking experience with particular expertise in treasury. He began his career in finance more than 35 years ago at South Pacific Merchant Finance which later merged to become the National Bank of New Zealand. Through his career, Simon has held several senior treasury and financial markets roles at National Bank and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. Simon’s most recent role was Chief Executive of the Government Superannuation Fund Authority and the National Provident Fund, which he held for 10 years.

Simon is a director of a number of public and private companies, including Sunny Financial Services, NZ Bio Forestry, Palliser Estate Wines of Marlborough, Global Horticulture, Nutrition for Health, Asteron Life, and Nippon Life New Zealand NOHC. He is also an Advisor to the Fiso Investment Group, a trustee of the Fale Malae Trust and the University of Otago Foundation Trust, and chairs Booster Investment Management’s private equity fund, the Tahi Fund.
